Cycle 3

Madea's Next Top Model, Cycle 3 premiered on December 8, 2010. The third cycle features casts members of Disney Channel, Family Channel and Nickelodeon Channel shows, largely those which shows air on Family Channel. The total number of contestants this cycle 40, instead of the usual 30 in the past 2 cycles. The season's catch-phrase is "Never a Dull Moment". Cycle 3 is looking to air its season finale in mid-April 2011.

There are minor adjustment to the judging panel this cycle. Madea remains as it's host, Tyra Banks as one of the co-hosts, as the new co-host is star of "That's So Raven", T'Keyah Crystal Keymáh. Jeanne Beker, J. Alexander and Stacey McKenzie will remain part of the judging panel. Cassi Davis and Jay Manuel are still looking to be the show's creative directors. Replacing Cycle 1's Twiggy and Cycle 2's Lil' Kim is Canadian supermodel and judge from Canada's Next Top Model Yasmin Warsame. Replacing Nigel Barker is editor-at-large of Vogue magazine André Leon Talley

This season, although the amount of contstants has increased, the amount of episodes will decrease. Meaning, there's sure to be some major twists and surprises this season, such as double eliminations, and even triple eliminations.

The main location will be set in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the international destination is set to be Berlin, Germany. The prizes for the winner will still remain the same, as the winner will win a representation by either Elite Model Management, Sutherland Models, Ford Models or Chic Model Management (or even all agencies mentioned), a fashion spread in VOGUE Top Model magazine, and a $100,000 contract with P&G Beauty cosmetics.

Episode 1
What Happens In Vegas, Stays Fiercely In Vegas

The 40 finalists of Cycle 3 of Madea's Next Top Model meet each other at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada, where they meet judges J. Alexander & Stacey McKenzie. There, they were given the keys to their rooms at the Hotel Mirage in the heart of Las Vegas. Later, the 40 contestants were visited by Yasmin Warsame in the atrium to have their first challenge, where they had to create their own anti-bullying ad. Because there were so many good posters and so many contestants, several girls, such as Miranda, Danielle, Victoria, Demi, Jamie Lynn and Alyson, won the change and earned a free trip to Toronto, Canada to shoot a PSA and photo shoot for Kids Help Phone.

The first photo shoot involved the theme of bullying. They had to portray the bully, as well as the victim. Panel was held in the aquarium, where new judges Yasmin Warsame, André Leon Talley, and new co-host T’Keyah Crystal Keymáh were accompanied with Madea and the rest of the previous judges. The judges praise Demi, Chloe, Hannah, Erin and Las Vegas native Meaghan Jette for their excellent photos. When elimination came around, Jennifer and Brenda found themselves to be in the bottom two. Madea addressed that Brenda failed to show expression in her eyes throughout the entire shoot, and was eliminated.

Later, the girls are taken to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas for a photo shoot. The shoot took place on campus grounds where the girls had to portray common university professors with a high-fashion twist. Photographer Steven Meisel shoots the girls, and was highly impressed with Anneliese and Emily R., as well as Demi and Chloe.

At judging, Vanessa H. shone for her quirkiness that translated into high fashion, while Victoria and Christian were equally praised. She immediately was rushed back to the treatment center, while the rest of the girls went to Burlington Coat Factory for their challenge. They were instructed by Jay Manuel and special guest celebrity stylist June Ambrose to find a good combination of clothes for the holidays. Demi returned back ready to go. By the end of their time, Jay announced that Demi, Anneliese, Nicole, Raven-Symoné and Meaghan Jette won the challenge, and they received $100,000.00 shopping spree from Burlington Coat Factory.

During the photo shoot, Alyson had a conversation with Demi, and told her that she’s here for if Demi is ever feeling down. The photo shoot consisted of the girls showing their Christmas spirit in wide selections of high-fashion dresses. At panel, Zoë, Demi, and Chloe impressed the judges, but Jennifer, for the third time, failed to show body awareness and landed in the bottom two together with Maddy, who wasn’t versatile in expression. They were taken to a place in a limousine blindfolded. When they took off their blindfolds, they realized that they were at J.C. Penney, and that Mike Ullman was the president and CEO of J.C. Penney. The challenge of the week involved the girls doing a holiday-themed commercial for J.C. Penney. Most did a good job, but it was Miranda, Vanessa M., Keke, Alyson, Zoë Vanessa H. and Maiara who won free merchandise from J.C. Penney, along with gift cards.

At the photo shoot, the girls were to celebrate the coming of the 2011 New Year at a prestigious New Year’s party. Get Up and Pose, Sleepy Head!!!

The 36 remaining girls travelled to La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries at West Flamingo Rd. & South Hualapai Way. They were given a lesson by posing instructor Benny Ninja on how to give extravagant poses on a bed, which then lead to a challenge on actually posing on a bed in front of customers. Benny announced that Emily R., Bridgit and Vanessa M. won the posing challenge and had a photo shoot for the Sealy Posturepedic® mattress.

This week, the girls were to give poses as they were waking up from their sleep, similar to the shoot on the 1st episode of Cycle 1. At panel the judges felt all the girls struggled with their photo shoots. Only Chloe and Shanica received relative praise for their performances. Erin was praised for her photo, but her personality was questioned by the judges. Brittany and Jamie Lynn’s photos were deemed the worst, and they landed in the bottom two. Though both their photos lacked in presence, it was Jamie Lynn who was eliminated.

Strip Me

The following week, the girls got a visit from Madea, Tyra and T'Keyah The remaining 35 contestants were taken to Hypnotic Salon Las Vegas, a Paul Mitchell Focus Salon, and got their makeovers. During the makeover process, Jay and Cassi Davis spoke with each of the girls to help them to establish their individual styles and looks; Chloe was told that she didn't need much change. Many girls got a change in hair colour: Nicole, the Ashleys, Demi, Alyson and Danielle among a couple, while Raven-Symoné got her hair cut near short. Jay and Cassi were impressed with all the final looks, but they were highly impressed with Jasmine and Shanica’s post-makeover photoshoot, and they both won $5,000.00 worth of products from CoverGirl.

Back at the hotel, Chelsea and Maiara spotted Miley going outside with a group of teens smoking. Meanwhile, Madea stopped by the hotel to see the girls and brought along British singer Natasha Bedingfield. They were told that they were going to do a mock-out of Bedingfield’s video for "Strip Me". They went to the Red Rock Photography Studios afterwards to shoot the video, but Miley was still with the group not knowing what was happening. Chelsea and Maiara informed Madea that Miley was missing; however, Madea was already aware, and told them that Miley is putting herself at risk of failing in the competition.

At judging, Maiara, Anneliese, Brittany were among the few who received praise from the judges. Caitlyn Taylor and Anna Maria were given negative feedback, but the real disappointment was with Miley’s absence at the shoot. Madea later announced that 2 girl were being sent home. Miley, along with Caitlyn Taylor and Anna Maria, were in the bottom. Episode 7
Oh, Sweet Jesus!

The fallout of the previous week’s elimination continued to rock the hotel as the girls returned to their suite, and conflict was created against Miley. The next day, the girls start off with a Victoria’s Secret runway show at church. Most girls were a bit apprehensive because of their religion while Jasmine wanted them to pray before the show starts stating that she was Christian too, though the other girls were skeptical. All of the girls performed well, but it was Christian (ironically, since her name was ‘Christian’) who kept her focus on the runway, and won a New King James Study Bible and free merchandise from Vitoria’s Secret.

Back in the model house, the girls were having dinner until Miley decided to speak ill of Christian and her challenge win. Christian found Miley’s negativity irritating, thus telling her to grow up and take responsibility for her actions. Miley drove some of the girls to the point of infuriation and verbally abused her. For this week’s photo shoot, they would be posing amongst a congregation of church members and aim to stand out. Keke, Jasmine, Demi, Shanica and Raven-Symoné photographed well and Christian’s challenge win boosted her performance. Miley broke down, saying she was distracted from not being present at the last shoot. Jennette’s shoot didn’t start off great and the progression didn’t get any better.

At panel, the girls were informed that they will be eliminating 2 girls for the next few weeks. Keke, Jasmine and Shanica were praised for their shots. Sally was criticized on her average photo, and was later placed in the bottom three with Miley and Jennette. In the end, Sally was saved and Miley and Jennette were eliminated.

The girls were taught acting skills by T’Keyah Crystal Keymáh, which led them to act out a scene as Madea. Keke and Selena excelled, while Hannah and Sally were criticized for holding back too much. Keke and Selena won the challenge, $5,000.00 worth of clothing and a commercial shoot for Clean & Clear. All were supportive with the exception of Ashley L..

For this week’s photo shoot, the girls had to portray scenes from different movies. They were split into 3 groups for the following movies: “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”, “Avatar” and “Burlesque”.

At panel, Anneliese was praised again for her strong fashion sense and adaption to the backdrop. Tiffany showed the most improvement with delivering a great shot. Vanessa M.’s photo was criticized, both for her one-note expressions and lack of delivery. Miranda and Danielle were critiqued for their similarities in their photos and in judging. Ultimately, Anneliese received the first call out for her outstanding shot. Sally, Raven-Symoné and Vanessa M. landed in the bottom two, with Raven-Symoné being told she was not versatile, and Sally that her low self-esteem held her back. With that, Sally was spared once again.

Almay

Most of the girls struggled at the teach, but Vanessa H., Brittany, Bridgit and Meaghan Jette stood out due to their creativity. Later that day, Ann announced that Vanessa H. won the challenge.

The weeks’s shoot had the girls involved in a photo shoot and commercial for Almay Intense I-Color where they met spokesperson Kate Hudson and former Elaine Irwin Mellencamp. Miranda and Danielle, continuously, were criticized for their similarity in their shoots. Sally received unanimous praise for her major improvement on film. Ashley T., despite her excellent performance at the shoot, was in the bottom 3 with Emily O. and Tiffany, but was spared another week.

Episode 10
Stuttering

The girls were introduced to a 3-part lesson on media exposure titled “Spotlight in the Spotlight”. The 1st part was instructed by American Idol host Ryan Seacrest, and was teaching the girls the pros and cons of telephone interviews. Afterwards, they went to their challenge, where English television presenter Alexa Chung was doing the phone interviews. Danielle, Demi, Chloe, Emily R., Victoria, Miranda, Sally, Jasmine, Brittany, Selena, Shanica & Bridgit were the most impressive and they all won the challenge.

The next day, the girls travelled out to the desert to a gas station where they were greeted by Jay Manuel, Cassi Davis and Canadian singer Fefe Dobson. They soon found out that they were doing a mock-out of Fefe’s video for “Stuttering”. Demi, Christian and Lindsey soared at the shoot, while Chloe improved from last week’s downfall.

At judging, only Tyra liked Meaghan Jette’s takes; the other judges thought it was too pretentious. Hannah, Danielle and Brittany landed in the bottom three: Hannah for her disengenious takes, Danielle for her lack of confidence and Brittany for her slovenly. Madea eventually handed the last photo to Brittany.
